Founded in 2013, Culturally Defined is a hip hop and street dance company, based in Vancouver, Canada. Under the direction of Chris Wong, the company started as a small group of 20 dancers who trained together 10 months of the year. Dedicated and passionate about the art form. It has always been an open space for dancers from all walks of life to explore and strengthen our shared passion for dance. Over the past 6 years, we have expanded our programs to include more accessible options like our intensive training programs.

Our main goal is to create a strong understanding of the foundations of hip hop culture and street dance styles through educating our students in Hip Hop, Locking, Popping, House, BBoying, Waacking, and more. We aim to fully expose our dancers to many forms of movement by providing them with intensive training from our established directors, elite faculty, and international guest instructors. Throughout the program, our students learn to polish their technique, follow and create choreography, develop personal freestyles, improve personal health, and challenge themselves with becoming a versatile and creative individual.

Your go-to girl | Brigitte took her first dance class when she was 4 years old and has continued her dance training in many forms - tap, jazz, ballet, and hip hop competitively. She loves a challenging jam session and will always say yes to trying a new dance style.

Find her popping in and out of classes and leading events in the background. She doesn’t attend every class, but she’s always there when you need her!

Musicality, footwork, and grooves | Fran can bring any studio to life with her high energy drills and positive vibes.

Her background in house and hip hop comes from her 7+ years of training in the UK. She focuses on fundamental drills and concepts that students can take away, in order to continue to improve outside of the classroom.

She is passionate about teaching and breaking things down in a clear and digestible way for students to understand. She values creating an open space where students feel challenged no matter their level.

Performance, isolation, and patience | Steven is a charmer, he’ll make you fall in love with his smooth grooves and style.

Growing up as a competitive studio dancer, his dance style has become a mix of technical training and creative expression. His classes are full of grooving and isolation drills, with a touch of urban choreography.

Body awareness, coordination, and performance are among Steven’s priorities in class. More importantly, he always provides an inviting and comfortable space for dancers new to the scene.
