FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

I like what Culturally Defined does- how can I learn to dance with this company?

We offer a 10 month program for dancers who are looking to really advance their skills and learn more about hip hop and street styles. Our 2-3 month intensive programs are offered in levels 1, 1.5, and 2 for dancers who would like a taste of Culturally Defined training with a smaller time commitment. Learn more about our intensive programs HERE.

I want to support! When and where does Culturally Defined perform?

Throughout the year, CD Crew performs in 2-3 live showcases, often in collaboration with other local dance events. One of our favourite parts of the year is our Year End Showcase: an evening of street dance performances by CD Crew, Intensive dancers, guest dancers, and a All Styles Battle. To be the first to know about our upcoming events and performances, join our newsletter and follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

INTENSIVE PROGRAMS

Are your programs progressive or is each class drop-in style?

All programs are intensive programs; classes will build upon each other while you explore different styles of hip hop and street styles. We also offer Drop-In classes on separate occasions, once a month.

Will there be a performance aspect to the course?

Our curriculum for the Spring and Fall terms (12 weeks) includes a performance in our Winter (December) and Year End Showcase (June). The Summer term is shorter (8 weeks) and focuses on training. Therefore, there is no performance at the end of the term.

How will the classes be structured?

All classes begin with a warm up, followed by street style fundamental training (popping, locking, house, waacking, etc). The second portion of the class is a mix of freestyle training and choreography.

I’ve completed one term of training with CD and am interested in moving forward, what should I do next?

Read through the 3 goals of each level as stated HERE- If you found your course level to be challenging, we highly recommend that you take the same level again until you feel confident about meeting each goal. Each term is organized with different focuses and instructors so that you can retake a course while still building on your repertoire. If you can’t decide, feel free to ask your instructor for advice! We’re here to help.
